Mango export to rise by 5pc

Published June 19, 2003

KARACHI, June 18: The value of mango export is set to rise by 7 to 8 per cent this year due to weak dollar and stronger rupee, exporters said here on Wednesday.

Similarly, the volume of mango export will also rise by 5 per cent as the demand for Pakistani mango is rising in international market especially in Europe.

President of Fruits and Vegetables Processor and Exporters Association (FVPEA), Abdul Mateen Siddiqui said that demand was high in Gulf countries including Dubai and Saudi Arabia.

Last year, mango export was estimated at $17 million while the volume was about 47,000 tons.

This year, the value of mango export would surpass $20 million mark and volume is set to cross 50,000 tons, Mateen said.—APP
