KARACHI, May 21: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has approved two road-construction schemes for Sindh, costing Rs1.5 billion.
This was disclosed by Sindh Chief Minister Sardar Ali Mohammed Khan Mahar while presiding over a meeting at the Chief Minister’s House on Wednesday.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Sindh, K.B. Rind, senior member Board of Revenue, Manzoor Hussain Bhutto, Additional Chief Secretary (Development) Ghulam Sarwar Khero, Additional Chief Secretary (Finance ) Fazalur-Rehman, and Secretary to C.M. Sindh, Ghulam Mustafa Kazi.
The chief minister said that under the first scheme a road would be built from Karachi to Nangarparker connecting the coastal areas and towns of Keti Bunder, Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, Ali Bandar, Diplo, and Islamkot.
He said that work on the scheme would be initiated within one month and completed within one year.
“With the completion of this scheme, economic activity will increase, particularly in the coastal areas and Thar,” the chief minister said.
The scheme also includes a strategy for poverty alleviation in drought-affected areas in particular, which will be completed by National Highway Authority (NHA).
The chief minister said the Prime Minister had also approved another road scheme to inter-connect Karachi and Balochistan.
The scheme will connect Karachi to Droroji, Lohi, Johi, Dadu, Larkana and to the highway of Balochistan.
The road will facilitate people and tourists visiting the Gorakh Hill resort, which is being developed by the present government.
The meeting also adopted a strategy to finalize the proposals regarding the packages approved by the Prime Minister for the development Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur.
The meeting also discussed schemes for improvement, up-gradation and development of the tourism spots of Al- Manzar in Jamshoro, Keenjhar Lake and Lab-i-Mehran in Sukkur.—APP
