Saddam took away $1bn in cash: NYT

WASHINGTON, May 6: Former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein allegedly removed nearly one billion dollars in cash from Iraq’s Central Bank shortly before US forces began bombing Baghdad in March, the New York Times said on Tuesday.

The money, some 900 million dollars in 100 dollar notrs and an amount equivalent to 100 million dollars in euros, was said to have been taken from the bank in three tractor-trailers, the report said.
