SANGHAR, May 3: The IGP, Sindh, Syed Kamal Shah, on Saturday regretted the loss of policemen’s lives killed during the five- day-long encounter near Tando Adam, saying that while the deceased’s families had to face irreparable losses, each of the deceased’s family would be paid Rs300,000 as compensation.

While talking to journalists at the Saleh Waryah village while visiting the area of the encounter, he pledged to provide jobs to the next of kin of the deceased policemen and announced rewards and promotions for the policemen participating in the encounter.

A policeman and five of the six bandits, hiding in a nearby banana plantation had earlier been killed in an encounter, which began on Tuesday night.

He said that a notification had already been issued to provide full pay to the heirs of deceased policemen till they attain the age of 60.

Mr Shah also said that the pay structure of the Sindh police would be revised and would be brought on a par with the emoluments paid to the Punjab police.

Pledging action against persons providing shelter to bandits, he said that lists were being prepared in this regard. The IGP said that the dead bodies of bandits would be dumped near the Hyderabad-Tando Adam road, where they had looted the passenger bus.

Thousands of persons, who had gathered at the Mohammadi Chowk here, showered rose petals upon police officials, including the officers commanding the operation when they arrived here after the encounter.
