Two killed, one injured in tribal clash

By Our Correspondent

SUKKUR, May 3: The long standing dispute between the Esani and the Qambrani tribes on Saturday claimed the lives of two Qambrani tribesmen while injuring another man after members of the Esani tribe opened fire upon them near Chand Shakh, a waterway in the Jacobabad district.

The killings, which occurred in the jurisdiction of the Abad police station, was attributed to the ongoing dispute between Esani and Qambrani tribes, which had claimed the lives of 30 persons since it started in 1996.

The deceased were identified as Mohammed Murad, son of Abdul Ghafoor Qambrani, and one of his friends, Fateh Mohammed, son of Kora Khan Buledi. Punhal Chandio was injured in the incident.

The three of them were riding a motorcycle at the time of the incident and were on their way to their farm.

The police said that Punhal later identified attackers as Shahzado, Anwar, Manthar, Nadir and Papoo (all belonging to the Esani tribe).

No FIR was registered till the filing of this report.

However, officials of the local police said that they were conducting raids to arrest the accused.

Tension gripped the cities of Shikarpur and Jacobabad after the occurrence of the incident.
