ISLAMABAD, April 29: The combined opposition leaders have decided to show maximum flexibility on all issues in the joint committee while adhering firmly to their position on the need to take the LFO to parliament for approval and the immediate separation of the offices of COAS and presidency.

On Tuesday, they also decided to hold more meetings before getting on with the regular work within the committee.

The 11-member committee, constituted to turn the LFO into a mutually acceptable bill for presentation in parliament, remained incomplete even after the passage of 24 hours since the announcement of its formation by Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali on Monday night.

So far, the names of the committee’s chairman, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Liaquat Baloch and Hafiz Hussain Ahmed of the MMA, Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan and Latif Khosa of the People’s Party Parliamentarians, and Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan of the PML-N have been finalized.

The government has yet to finalize its team of five. But the three most likely names are Riaz Pirzada of the National Alliance, Faisal Saleh Hayat of the Patriots and Abdul Razzak Tahim of the PML-F.

PPP parliamentary leader Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Makhdoom Shah Mehmud Qureshi and Khurshid Shah, MMA’s Liaqat Baloch and Hafiz Hussain Ahmed and PML-N’s Makhdoom Javed Hashmi and Ishaq Dar met on Tuesday and discussed their strategy for participating in the proceedings of the committee.
