Girl attempts suicide

By Our Correspondent

HARIPUR, April 28: A minor girl tried to commit suicide after she failed in her examinations.

Mohammed Riaz, the gatekeeper of the Khanpur Road level crossing near the central jail intersection, said when he closed the crossing to allow a Rawalpindi-bound passenger train to pass at 11.30am, he spotted a minor girl lying prostrate on the track some hundred yards from him. He said at that time the train was visible and he had to rush to save the girl.

After rescuing the girl, identified as Bibi, 7, Mr Riaz informed her father, Shaukat Ali. Mr Riaz said the girl told him that she had been denied promotion to the next class by her teacher for the last three years.
