DERA GHAZI KHAN, April 26: The district government has violated the decision of the Balochi Jirga, which had settled a dispute over rights of irrigation water of hill torrents between the Buzdar and Qaisrani tribes, by awarding a contract to change the route of hill torrents.

According to the tribesmen, the change in the hill torrents’ route will affect the settled rights of irrigation. They alleged that the decision had been taken to oblige the cronies (opponents of Buzdar and Qaisrani chiefs).

In 1963, the tribal Jirga of Buzdar and Qaisrani chiefs had settled the rights of irrigation water of hill torrents. The Jirga reportedly averted a clash between Buzdar chief Tumandar Dost Muhammad Khan and Qaisrani chief Tumandar Manzoor Ahmad Khan over the distribution of the irrigation water and rights of hill torrents’ irrigation water.

In the recent elections, Buzdar chief Fateh Muhammad Khan and Qaisrani chief Mir Badshah Khan had won their provincial seats from the PML-Q’s platform.
