FAISALABAD, April 25: The local police launched a grand operation in the market of motorcycles and took into custody over two dozen bikes describing them as suspects here on Thursday night.
Heavy police contingents headed by Gulberg ASP encircled the market comprising about 200 shops on Narwala Road by sealing all roads and streets leading to this area.
The armed policemen immediately took control of almost all shops and asked their owners to stay outside their shops. The people who visited the market for the sale or purchase of two-wheelers were also directed to stay away from their bikes. After minute checking, the bikes were handed over to their owners.
The policemen inspected almost all the shops, godowns of motorcycle dealers, adjacent houses of the market and other shopping centres and noted the registration, chassis and engine numbers of all vehicles.
The police teams found that numbers of over two dozen motorcycles had been tampered with or fake registrations. The suspected vehicles had been taken into custody under section 550 of the PPC. The police also checked official record of the zero meter vehicles parked in showsrooms.
A police source told Dawn that action had been taken after the receipt of a number of complaints that lifted vehicles were being sold by some of the dealers in the market.
