HARIPUR, April 18: A provincial assembly member belonging to the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal beat a traffic inspector over a trivial issue here on Wednesday, witnesses told Dawn.
They said the traffic inspector, Jamshed Khan, who was recently posted in the traffic wing, fined a number of a vehicles plying on the Khalabat Township route for violation of traffic rules.
Drivers of these vehicles who allegedly did not have driving license and other documents of their vehicles complained against the inspector’s behaviour with the MPA, Akhtar Nawaz Khan.
The MPA when reached the spot where the inspector was busy in his routine checking near Adda Darband, an altercation took place and the MPA started thrashing the inspector with fists, kicks and abused him publicly. The inspector received minor injuries on his face and nose.
Later, the matter was settled as both the parties agreed on rapprochement when the MPA reportedly offered apology for his misbehaviour. When the inspector and MPA were contacted both refused to say a word on the matter adding that such matters which are of petty nature always played up by the press unnecessarily. Sources said there were over 500 and plus Suzuki vehicles plying the Khalabat Township KTS, route, and of these over 80pc were without valid documents and driven by underage and un- licensed drivers in connivance with the traffic police.
SUICIDE: A young man committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan on Wednesday evening, police said.
According to Fiaz son of Yaqub of village Sikandarpur, he was sleeping in his room on Wednesday night when somebody knocked the door. When he stepped out of his room to attend the door he spotted his younger brother Shaukat’s body hanging from the ceiling fan.
Fiaz told the police that since he did not have enmity with anyone he was sure that his brother who was also mentally retarded, had committed suicide himself.
