Opposition member collapses in NA session

ISLAMABAD, April 15: An opposition member on Tuesday collapsed inside the National Assembly hall when the opposition was protesting against the Legal Framework Order.

Ghulam Ali Nizamani of the People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP), elected from Badin, fell from his chair when the speaker, Chaudhry Amir Hussian, was announcing the panel of chairman. On the request of his fellow members, the speaker called a doctor from the parliament house dispensary and suspended rules to allow his entry in the House.

Mr Nizamani was then taken to the dispensary, and after preliminary checkup, was shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences. Health Minister Mohammad Nasir Khan accompanied him to the hospital and remained with him for some time.

Later, PML-Q member Dr Firdaus told reporters that Mr Nizamani had suffered a seizure, and since he was also diabetic, his sugar level went up and he collapsed. He had also vomited blood which was a normal feature in such fits, she said, adding that he had regained conscience and was feeling well.

Meanwhile, a hospital source told Dawn that the patient collapsed because he was having a sugar level of 270 mmg.

Mr Nizamani, after through checkup, was admitted to the private ward, where doctor had advised him complete rest. He is now under treatment of Dr Tariq Jamil of Neurosurgery.

Those who visited him in the hospital included the speaker, PML-Q president Chaudhry Shujat Hussain, PPP leader Amin Fahim, railways minister Ghaus Bux Mahar, Khurshid Shah, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Mubasshir Hassan, and PML-N member Begum Ishrat Ashraf.
