KARACHI: Phone booths to be set up at bus stops

KARACHI, April 14: Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited chairman Akhter Ahmed Bajwa has directed the payphone companies to install payphone booth at all bus stops of the rural and far-flung areas of the province to facilitate commuters and general public.

He was speaking at a high-level meeting held at the PTCL headquarters here on Monday.

The PTCL chairman was also briefed about the revenue targets, new telephone connections and development programmes of the southern region, besides the ongoing development projects. The PTCL chairman directed all the GMs to achieve their revenue targets in the stipulated time.

Mr Bajwa said the facility of paying bills through cheque should be provided at all the customers centres at the earliest. He directed the officers that one-window facility should be provided at all customer service centres so that subscribers could get all facilities under one roof.

The meeting was attended by senior PTCL officials.

Meanwhile, the PTCL chairman presided over a meeting at the Overseas Telecom Region at which he was briefed about the damage caused to the optical fibre cable in Karachi last week.

The PTCL chief directed the staff to keep a vigil on all installations as well as ITI cable routes to avoid such incidents.

He urged them to initiate well-coordinated steps to avoid frequent attacks from hackers, due to which many ISPs, software exporters and data network operators experienced slow browsing.

He said to detect and combat the DOS attack immediate remedial measures should be taken on urgent basis.—PPI
