ISLAMABAD April 13: Federal Minister for Information Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said on Sunday that the government was not in a hurry to hold a joint session of parliament as it was not a constitutional binding for starting a parliamentary year.
Talking to newsmen at the end of a seminar at the Liaquat Hall, Rawalpindi, Mr Sheikh said: “Re-read the constitution to see that it was not binding that joint session which is addressed by president was necessary for starting a parliamentary year.”
He, however, said that the government was making allout efforts for holding the joint session at the earliest but if the opposition was not ready for it, “we are not anxious to hold it immediately as it is not part of the constitution.”
About Iraq, he said the government’s policy on Iraq was a big success. Pakistan, he said, wanted that a solution to the Iraq crisis was found by UN Security Council, OIC, European Union and Arab League.
Sheikh Rashid, while reiterating his stand on the LFO, said it was a legitimate part of constitution and the talks were being held on some of its contentious parts.
