KARACHI: Doctor commits suicide

KARACHI, April 3: A doctor committed suicide in the city on Thursday.

The police said Dr Mohammed Iqbal Khan, aged 40, jumped into the sea from the Natives Jetty bridge. His body was recovered by divers soon after the incident.

The body was sent to Civil Hospital. The dead man’s family did not allow post-mortem.

The police said the dead man lived in flat No 4 at Amin Apartments in North Nazimabad’s block N. Father of a daughter and a former RMO of Jinnah Post- graduate Medical Centre, Dr Iqbal was facing joblessness, besides he had been running a property dispute with his brother.

KILLED: Bandits stabbed an elderly man to death and injured his wife in Saeedabad on Thursday.

The police said bandits stabbed Ahsan, aged 80, and his wife, Sakina, aged 70, in their house in Sector 5-G of Saeedabad when they put up resistance to the bandits.

The couple were first rushed to a nearby private hospital from where they were referred to Civil Hospital where doctors pronounced Ahsan dead on arrival.

INJURED: Bandits shot and injured a young man in a private office near Denso Hall on Thursday.

The police four armed men entered the office of a shipping agency in Quettawala building, held those present there hostage at gunpoint and collected Rs100,000.

When the bandits were leaving the place, Asghar Ali, an employee, tried to put up resistance to the bandits who opened fire on him and escaped.

Asghar was injured. He has been admitted to Civil Hospital. His condition is stated to be serious.
