KARACHI: Surgery techniques discussed

KARACHI, April 3: Surgery techniques in modern era have brought about a revolution in the field of medical science in the sense that the dream of treating many complicated diseases has come true. However, there stands exigency for patients to refer only authentic doctors otherwise mortality rate in the country may continue to mount.

This was observed by renowned surgeons based in Karachi at the Surgery Conference held at Kulsoom Bai Valika Social Security Hospital, here on Thursday.

The conference was organized jointly by the hospital management and the Society of Surgeons, Karachi Chapter. Eminent surgeon, Prof Raja G. Asghar was guest of honour while Medical Advisor of SESSI, Dr Hasib Qureshi presided over the conference.

In his presentation, Prof Asghar emphasized the need for holding similar events on regular basis and said that in the modern era, the field of surgery had attained new heights as, unlike in the past, the process had become almost painless.

Dr Qureshi said that the hospital was fully equipped to provide teaching facilities while measures were being taken for the establishment of a nuero-surgery department.

He hoped that the conference would provide ample opportunity to new doctors to acquaint themselves with modern techniques being introduced and adopted in the field besides gaining experience.

Other participants of the conference discussed the trend of reluctance, in an overwhelming majority of women, in narrating their medical problems especially related to gynaecology to doctors.

Such a trend, they said, usually resulted in aggravating the problems.

They stressed the need for creating awareness in such patients in order to contain the increasing mortality rate in gynaecology cases.

Prominent among those who attended the conference included Prof Manzar Alam of Civil Hospital, Prof Tariq Mahmood of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Prof Sarwar Arain of Hamdard Medical College, Prof Majeed Memon, Dr Ayesha and Dr Naushad.—PPI
