KARACHI, April 3: The Hindu community celebrated their new year 2060 that began with the sighting of the new moon of Chait — the first month of the Hindu year — on Thursday evening.

Special prayer meetings were organized in all the city temples and the central gathering was held at Swami Narayan Temple on M. A. Jinnah Road in the evening.

Other major gatherings were held at Native Jetty Temple and Shri Punch Mukhi Temple in Soldier Bazaar. Religious leaders in their sermons urged people to follow their religious teachings and spread the message of love and peace.

Religious hymnns (Bhajans) were sung and prayers were offered for the integrity and solidarity of the country and prosperity of the community. Free food was distributed among the devotees.
