PESHAWAR, April 1: Pakistan People’s Party (Sherpao) MPA Sikandar Hayat Sherpao has asked the federal government to take prompt steps for release and airlifting of Pakistani prisoners in various Afghan jails.

In a statement issued on Sunday, he welcomed the readiness of General Rashid Dostum to release hundreds of Pakistani from Shebarghan Jail.

He regretted the closure of Salang Pass, which was delaying the return of the detained Pakistanis in Afghanistan.

He claimed that the Pakistani prisoners in Afghan jails had been  subjected to harsh treatment, which was creating unrest among their families in Pakistan.

Mr Sherpao resented that the detainees in Shebarghan Jail were in worst human conditions and there was great concern about their plight.

He said that Islamabad should expedite its efforts to facilitate the speedy return of these prisoners through aircraft.
