Connections happy with Nayef draw
DUBAI, March 26: British-trained Dubai World Cup favourite Nayef was handed an “absolutely perfect” draw for Saturday’s $6 million big race, jockey Richard Hills said on Wednesday.
The five-year-old will come out of stall seven in an 11-runner field at Nad Al Sheba following Wednesday’s draw ceremony.
“He breaks well and he travels well,” said Nayef’s trainer Marcus Tregoning. The Gulch colt will make his first competitive start on the dirt surface after being switched from the race last year, winning the Dubai Sheema Classic instead on the turf.
Godolphin’s two runners, Moon Ballad and Grandera will start from outside draws. Moon Ballad, the 5-2 second favourite will exit from 11 while Grandera comes out of position nine.
Godolphin confirmed on Wednesday that Frankie Dettori would ride Moon Ballad while Jamie Spencer will partner Grandera.
“I am happy with Moon Ballad and Grandera. They have both been training very well,” said Godolphin trainer Saeed bin Suroor.
“Grandera is sound, healthy and ready to run and the same applies to Moon Ballad who won his last race very easily.
“Both came out of their recent races well. A strong pace will help Grandera while a slower pace will suit Moon Ballad. Both have the class to win the Dubai World Cup.”—Reuters
