PTV, PBC put on high alert for war coverage

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, March 20: The government has put Pakistan Television (PTV) and Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) on high alert for Gulf war coverage, sources told Dawn.

The sources said special teams had been formed in the two corporations to monitor the situation in the Gulf for full and timely coverage of US-led forces’ attacks on Iraq.

Following air attacks on Iraq on Thursday, special bulletins are being broadcast to give fresh picture of the situation to the nation.

The sources said the state-run electronic media had been put on high alert after Washington indicated to Islamabad on March 18, that the United States would attack Iraq within the next 48 hours.

There are some reports that troops have been deployed in sensitive areas, including PTV headquarter and Radio Pakistan building.
