GUJRANWALA, March 20: The sub-committees suspended two weeks ago have been restored by the district Naib Nazim with immediate effect and issued a notification in this regard here on Thursday.

The sub-committees were suspended in a meeting when a number of members expressed their dissatisfaction over their working. However, the opposition criticized their suspension and urged the district Naib Nazim to restore them using his executive powers.

The district Nazim, in a briefing here, said these committees have not been suspended but become ineffective when some members of district council elected to the Punjab Assembly. The posts which fell vacant have been filled.

Meanwhile, Nazims of various union councils accused the district Nazim that he himself made these sub-committees ineffective to complete development projects by his favourites.

SUSPENDED: Provincial Transport Minister Shamshad Ahmad Khan and Kamoki tehsil council Nazim Zakaullah Baryar suspended about a dozen employees of the tehsil office from service on late coming on Thursday.

The minister and the Nazim were reportedly receiving complaints against tehsil council office employees for late coming to the office and not resolving public problems. They went to the tehsil council office at 8am and awaited the employees till 9. But they did not turn up. They were told that almost all the employees come at 10am.

ENCROACHMENTS: The city tehsil council removed encroachment from all bazaars and along the GT Road while set obscene film posters to fire during an operation clean-up here on Thursday.

The anti-encroachment squad took the goods of shopkeepers into custody and demolished platforms and projections of shops.

SHOT DEAD: A Wapda linesman was shot dead by robbers on resistance at Vania Morr village on Thursday.

Reports said Muhammad Sharif was on his way home from office by his motorcycle when four armed men stopped him. They shot dead him on resistance, and drove away with his vehicle.
