FAISALABAD, March 9: City Nazim Mumtaz Cheema has banned entry of Naib Nazims of union councils into the offices of Tehsil Municipal Administration (city).

The ban was imposed through a circular (No. 606, dated March 1, 2003) which says: “tehsil nazim has desired that all Naib Nazims of TMA, Faisalabad city, be informed that they should visit the office of the tehsil municipal officer, Faisalabad city, for redressal of their grievances in respect of TMA, Faisalabad city. Honourable naib nazims are requested not to visit sections or lower staff of TMA.”

Meanwhile, the Naib Nazims alleged on Sunday that City Nazim Mumtaz Cheema had failed to run the affairs of the council.

They further accused Mr Cheema of misappropriating TMA funds.

They complained that the TMA employees did not cooperate with them to redress public grievances. Mr Cheema, instead of taking action against the TMA employees concerned, banned entry of Naib Nazims to the offices.

Under the devolution plan, union council Nazims are members of the district government while the Naib Nazims are councillors of tehsil municipal administrations.
