India claims US assurance on infiltration

NEW DELHI, March 4: An Indian government source claimed U.S. President George Bush assured India on Tuesday that Washington continued to press Islamabad to halt alleged infiltration of guerillas into occupied Kashmir.

Mr Bush telephoned Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee to discuss Washington’s push for a new U.N. resolution authorizing military action against Iraq, the source said.

“President Bush assured him (Vajpayee) that the U.S. continues to apply pressure on Pakistan on the matter of cross-border terrorism, particularly to ensure that infiltration does not increase as the snows melt,” the source said. —Reuters
