ISLAMABAD, March 4: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has said any decision on Iraq will be in the best national interest, and the people and parliament will be taken into confidence in case of any crisis.

“No one should have any doubt about that,” the prime minister said at a seminar on Tuesday titled “Pakistan’s role in international crisis”.

He urged the political leaders to avoid accusing the government of not taking them into confidence, and asked them to come forward and join hands in the national development effort.

He said: “Now we have a graduate assembly and there should be some change in the way we have been conducting business.”

He added: “The way some politicians are acting will make things difficult for the country and for democracy.”

Before taking any decision on Iraq, Pakistan has to take into consideration the international scene as it is a member of the UN Security Council and belongs to the developing world, he said.

“International crises are not solved by making statements; they are solved by pragmatism,” he observed.

Mr Jamali asked the political leaders bent upon discussing international issues to first help fight the internal problems facing the country.

He said: “Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto are welcome to return, but they will have to face the law of the land.”

He said during the first tenure of the People’s Party government, all cases against its leaders were dropped. The PML-N regime did the same. “Why should we seek opinion from those who can’t solve their own crisis,” he remarked.—APP
