BOSTON,(Massachusetts), March 2:Former Olympic champion Gail Devers ran the fastest women’s 60-metre hurdles in the world this year, 7.74 seconds, in the semifinals, then won the final at the U.S. indoor championships on Saturday.
The 36-year-old Devers clocked 7.85 seconds for her first-ever U.S. indoor hurdles title.
She beat four-time U.S. indoor champion Melissa Morrison, and qualified for the March 14-16 world championships in Birmingham, England.
Devers usually runs the sprints indoors, but has been concentrating on the hurdles this winter.
In her first race last month, she broke Jackie Joyner-Kersee’s 14-year-old U.S. record with a time of 7.78 seconds, then broke her own mark in the semi-finals on Saturday.
