PESHAWAR, Feb 3: The city police on Sunday arrested two policemen of Faqirabad police station on charges of killing a person during custody.

An employ of Mohsin Match Factory, Iftikhar, was allegedly killed by police torture at Ittihad checkpost on Friday evening.

Chief of the city police, on Sunday formed a three-member investigation committee, which charged police officials, Mohammed Yousaf and Mohammed Zubair, in the alleged killing of Iftikhar, said a press release.

Faqirabad police station registered an FIR against both the cops on the charges of abusing their official power, it added.

The city police chief had also suspended Mohammed Yousaf and Mohammed Zubair and formed another probe committee headed by the DSP (investigation) city to further investigate the matter.

SEIZED: Police have sized a large quantity of arms and ammunition from a tonga and arrested an alleged smuggler in the jurisdiction of Pishtakhara police station here on Sunday.

Official sources told Dawn that the police had a prior information about the smuggling attempt from Bara, Khyber Agency, to Punjab.

Working on the tip-off, the police erected barricade at the Bara Road and stopped a tonga-cart for checking. During the search, the police recovered 82 30-calibre pistols, 164 magazines of pistol, 7 butts of Kalashnikov, 11 butts of rifle and 1,000 bullets of 30-calibre pistols.

An FIR was registered under Anti-Arms Smuggling Act.
