KARACHI, Jan 13: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan has convened a high-level meeting to discuss an early start of work on the reconstruction of 10-km-long Shahrah-i-Orangi, upgradation of the KMC maternity home and dispensary in Orangi Town to a general hospital, construction of a bridge from Banaras to the Orangi police station and for finding out a permanent solution to water shortage in the area.

The Nazim had a five-hour visit to Orangi Town on Monday and addressed public gatherings at different places, met people and listened to their problems and grievances.

He inspected the Shahrah-i-Orangi and regretted that the road had been in a dilapidated condition for the last five years.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a TB clinic in the Orangi Maternity Home, Naimatullah Khan said that he had reached the conclusion that the town administration could not construct the road and, therefore, it had been decided that work on the project would be carried out by the city government soon.

He said that the people of Orangi would not be made a victim of election-related politics.” We have sincerely worked for bringing improvements and devising solution to various problems and these efforts will continue”.

The Nazim said that he had fulfilled the promises made so far and the promises made with the people of Orangi would also be fulfilled soon.

He noted that supply of water to Orangi was a very big issue and a joint meeting of officials of water and sanitation wing and UC Nazimeen of the town would soon be convened in which these issues would be considered in detail and on the spot decisions would be taken for their solution.

The City Nazim said that every union council would be provided Rs3.5 million which would help in solving their problems to a great extent.

During the visit to the area, the Nazim went round Pakistan Bazaar, Gulshan-i-Bahar, UC Ghaziabad market sector 14-D and C. He said that tenders would soon be invited for construction of toilets in Pakistan Bazaar.

INVESTMENT: A delegation of Pakistanis living in Saudi Arabia in a meeting with the City Nazim expressed interest for investment in Karachi and said that in the first phase they would provide 50 CNG big buses.

The City Nazim assured the delegation that there was no problem of law and order and crime rate was much lower in Karachi than other big cities of the world.

He said that foreign media had been propagating poor law and order situation in the city and that investors would be provided with every possible security and facilities.

He maintained that the prime minister had given relief in taxes to CNG buses on request of the city government.—APP/PPI
