PESHAWAR: Seminar on post-IBP situation rescheduled

By Our Correspondent

PESHAWAR, Jan 11: The Specialist Doctors Society has rescheduled a seminar for Jan 18, to review performance of hospitals on completion of one year of the institution-based practice (IBP) for the doctors.

“There is an open invitation to the health authorities, doctors, academicians, think-tanks and journalists to speak on the IBP and furnish suggestions with regard to bringing improvement in the practice or doing away with it,” said Dr Pervez Khan, president of the society, at a news conference here on Saturday.

Flanked by the president of the Islamic Medical Association, Dr Abdul Samad, he said the seminar, which had been scheduled for Jan 15, would now be held on Jan 18, at the auditorium of the Khyber Medical College.

A PML-N MPA Anwar Kamal Marwat, who is also the chairman of the IBP parliamentary committee, besides others would speak on the outcome of this new concept.

Speaking to the newsmen, Dr Samad said: “It is no longer a problem of the doctors. It has become a national problem because sufferings of patients have increased,” said Dr Samad.

According to him, there is a dire need to see if the system has caused hardships to the patients. He was of the view that the IBP had played havoc with the medical students in the wake of resignation by senior consultants against the IBP.

Dr Samad said the IBP had been introduced to put brakes on the exploitation of poor patients, but its outcome was otherwise.
