LAHORE, Jan 8: The special adviser to the prime minister, Dr Qadeer Khan, has said news items alleging his involvement in selling nuclear technology are baseless, concocted and malicious.
Talking to reporters after the convocation of the Pakistan Academy of Medical Sciences (PAMS) at the King Edward Medical College on Wednesday, he said nuclear technology could not be thrown away by just writing on pamphlets and leaflets.
“If nuclear secrets could have been disclosed like this, then even Bangladesh and Bhutan could have developed atomic bombs,” he said.
Every country had to learn the technology itself and develop weapons. No country could ever give its atomic technology to any other country, he added.
Dr Khan said nuclear technology had also industrial applications to support local industry. The country had spent huge resources to attain nuclear technology, and this technology should now be used to protect the country and support local industry.
REPORT DISMISSED: Pakistan on Wednesday dismissed a media report concerning Dr A.Q. Khan as part of a malicious campaign against the country’s consistent and established record of safeguarding its sensitive nuclear technology, adds APP.
“It is absolutely false, baseless and motivated,” a foreign office spokesman said when asked to comment on the report.
The spokesman said, such reports were part of a malicious campaign against Pakistan’s consistent and established record of safeguarding its sensitive nuclear technology and ensuring without doubt that this technology had not been given to any other country.
“Dr A.Q. Khan is a distinguished Pakistani scientist — a national icon, whose contribution to Pakistan’s security has earned him the respect and appreciation of the people of Pakistan,” said the spokesman.
