NAWABSHAH: Hearing in sugar mills’ cases put off

By Our Correspondent

NAWABSHAH, Dec 24: Cases registered against the Sakrand Sugar Mills and the Habib Sugar Mills Limited for delaying crushing and offering low price to cane growers were heard on Tuesday.

The Sakrand Sugar Mills case was heard by the civil judge, Sakrand, and the Habib Sugar Mills Limited case was heard by the judicial magistrate-II.

Advocates of both the sugar mills requested the court for withdrawal of cases as the sugar mills had started crushing.

However, the representative of the cane commissioner, Ali Dino Abro, said that since the mills had not started crushing on time as a result of which the growers had incurred losses, therefore they had violated the law and the hearing should continue.

Both the cases have been adjourned for the next hearing on Jan 17.

ACCIDENT: A man, Ali Hassan Magsi, 55, was hit and killed by a speeding bus on the Sakrand bypass, near the Keerio petrol pump, on Monday.
