HYDERABAD, Dec 24: The session of the Hyderabad District Council was adjourned for an indefinite period here on Tuesday after some members raised question of lack of quorum.

At the outset of the proceedings, the presiding officer undertook to take up the pending resolution of Mohammad Yousuf Qureshi, felicitating Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Jamali and Sindh Chief Minister Sardar Ali Mohammad Mahar.

Qureshi drew the attention of the presiding officer to his resolutions, after the council disposed of the regular agenda and some out of turn resolutions.

When the resolutions were taken up, members of the Pakistan People’s Party -backed Awam Dost Panel created rumpus in the council, raising question of lack of quorum.

It led to an exchange of hot words between the independent members and the ADP members, who left the council despite the call by the presiding officer that the session had not been adjourned as yet.

In Monday’s session also, the ADP members had blocked a discussion on the same resolution by creating a pandemonium.

Earlier, the council expressed concern over sanitary condition in three talukas of the district and said the taluka councils had failed to solve the problems.

Some members demanded removal of the managing director of Wasa.

The council also took notice of the inordinate delay in starting crushing of sugarcane.

In a resolution, the council demanded sugarcane price should be fixed at Rs60 per 40kg, relief should be given in agriculture tax and land revenue, and the order of transferring cane commissioner Siddiq Memon should be withdrawn.
