KARACHI, Dec 24: A college student committed suicide in his house at Patel Para late Monday night.

Police said teenager Hasan Amin, second-year student at St Patrick’s College, hanged himself in a bathroom in his house at Patel Para in the police limits of Jamshed Quarters.

Quoting the family sources, police said Hasan Amin was mentally sick.

He was a nephew of Amin Khattak, a leader of the National Awami Party Pakistan, police said.

CARJACKING: Nineteen vehicles — six cars and 13 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Tuesday, police said.

Three cars were hijacked. Three others were stolen.

Six motorcycles were hijacked. Seven others were stolen.

Police also claimed on Tuesday to have recovered five cars and six motorcycles in the city.

ACCIDENTS: Reckless driving claimed three lives in the city on Tuesday.

Two men died in a road accident in Gadap.

Police said a speeding trailer (TL-8259) knocked down two men riding on a motorcycle (HDF-5519) on a road linking it to Super Highway.

Qasir Ali Khan, aged 40, and Haji Arzi Khan were critically injured.

They were rushed to a private hospital where doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.

The bodies were sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Police said the trailer driver escaped, but its cleaner had been taken into custody.

An unidentified young man died in a road accident in Gulzar-i-Hijri in the early morning.

Police said an unidentified man, who was in his mid-30s, was run over by an unknown speeding vehicle on Super Highway near Al-Asif Square. He died on the spot.

The body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem.

ROBBERIES: Two robberies were committed in the city on Tuesday, police said.

Three armed men barged into Ehtesham’s house in Korangi, held the family hostage at gunpoint and got away with valuables.

Bandits looted cash and valuables from a house in New Karachi’s sector 5-J.

DIE OF BURNS: A teenage boy and a young woman died of burns at Civil Hospital on Tuesday.

Police said Sultan, aged 15, suffered burns in his house at Korangi No 2 on Monday. He was admitted to the burns ward at Civil Hospital where he died.

Quoting the family sources, police said the boy suffered burns when a cooking stove burst in the kitchen.

Police, however, suspected that the boy committed suicide by setting himself on fire.

A housewife who suffered burns in her house at Landhi on Dec 19 died at Civil Hospital.

Police said Fareeda, aged 28, wife of Mohammed Sabir, suffered burns while working in the kitchen.

She was admitted to the burns ward at Civil Hospital on Dec 19 where she died.
