LAHORE, Dec 12: The Joint Action Committee of teachers, doctors and students on Thursday announced seven-point charter of demands to be presented to the Chief Minister at a meeting scheduled on Friday (today).

The demands are withdrawal of board of governors from 13 colleges in Faisalabad and all autonomous health institutions in the province; repeal of Model University Ordinance in Punjab; withdrawal of Tevta Ordinance; ban on contract recruitments of teachers and doctors and restoration of school teachers’ increments; reinstatement of sacked teachers and doctors; disbanding of three model universities established in Lahore, Faisalabad and Sargodha and consultation of stakeholders about the formation of a major policy in health and education sectors.

In a statement issued here on Thursday the JAC leaders Nazim Hasnain, Prof Dr Haris Rasheed, Dr Yasmin Rashid, Rana Liaquat and Naveed Anwar hoped that the CM would accept their genuine demands and provide a relief to people.

They said that it was obligatory on a democratic government to abolish all anti-people ordinances promulgated by the military regime. They said the JAC had no political motives.

They said for the last six month teachers, doctors and students had been protesting peacefully and if Friday’s talks with the CM failed they would not remain peaceful any more.

Meanwhile, teachers and students boycotted classes on Thursday after 10.30am and brought out rallies from MAO College, Dyal Singh College, Shalamar College, Islamia College Civil Lines, FC College and Islamia College Railway Road.
