KARACHI, Dec 9: The divisional superintendent of the Pakistan Railways, Nasreen Haq, has constituted a three-member divisional officers inquiry committee to ascertain the cause of the fire which erupted at the railway sheds at the city railway station on Sunday evening.
The committee has been asked to submit its report within two days.
According to railway sources the goods which were damaged by the fire included marble powder 2,000 bags, borex powder 800 bags, pine apple tin food 400 packs, starch 1,000 bags, herbal items 120 bags, polyethylene 400 bags, detergent powder/bar 350 cartons and steric acid 450 bags.
Other items damaged by the fire included arrowroot, rubber sheets, sulphuric acid, bleaching powder and caustic soda.
Railway officials said the cost of the damage caused to these sheds as well as the tracks, a portion of which melted, would be recovered from the contractors.—APP
