LAHORE, Nov 3: Favourite chestnut colt Son Of A Gun put up a excellent performance by winning the Zaheer-ud-Din Muhammad Babar Cup run over 1400 metres during the Lahore Winter Meeting in front of a capacity crowd.

Ridden superbly by jockey Shahid Rehman Son Of A Gun beat a high class field which included star colts. A progeny of Shogun out-of-Ginza Gift, the winner blitz down the home stretch and had a brilliant success over much talked about Desert Dream, defeating him by one and a three-fourth of a length. Derby 2002 winner King Fisher finished a bad third, another two and a quarter length back with the gelding Think Thank fourth, eight and a half lengths further behind.

Trained by Shakir Ali the winner clocked one minute 26 1/5 seconds over the distance. Only six ran in this fourth race of the day. The winning owner received the cup from senior stewards Brig Ihjaz Hussain amidst a big applause.

Three-year-old bay colt The conqueror caused a surprise he captured the Ramazan Cup run over 1200 metres.

Carrying an heavy impost of nine stones two pounds The Conqueror beat a field of gritty sprinters with his electrifying burst of speed in the dying minutes. He beat Millennium Count by three lengths. Bay filly Democracy came third with a good run on the outside while Lucky Shot crossed the line in fourth position.

Owned by Syed Tasweer Hussain Shah, The Conqueror is trained by Sohail Aziz. He clocked one minute 13 seconds over the distance.

In the sixth race jockey Shahid Rehman had a fall from fancied bay filly Red Storm in the gates shortly before the start. Luckily he escaped unhurt but the filly ran off the frame. A card of seven events was seen through in the afternoon racing.
