Teachers to hold protest rally today

RAWALPINDI, Nov 3: Teachers and college professors will hold a protest demonstration on Monday against the proposed formation of boards of governors at educational institutions.

The protest call has been given by the Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association (PPLA) and Schools-Colleges Teachers Alliance.

Union leaders said all teachers and senior professors would gather near Christian High School in Raja Bazaar, from where the protesters would march on the road.

However, they said the protest would be peaceful.

“As the government has not responded to our silent protests and boycott of classes, there is no way but to take the extreme course,” a PPLA leader said.

The government probably wants to test our nerves but we have resolved to continue our protests unless the government change its decision, he added.

“It will find us untiring in our struggle against the proposed educational reforms,” the leader said.

The union leaders deplored the fact that students were losing precious time as the teaching staff continued the protest because of the government inflexible stance.
