HYDERABAD, Nov 3: Extensive schemes should be announced for the development of Hyderabad, which should cater to future needs of the city.

This was recommended at the Save Hyderabad seminar, held here on Saturday under the aegis of the Sindh Ombudsman secretariat.

The seminar recommended the tax recovery system should be made efficient, corrupt officials should be taken to task and storage capacity of water should be enhanced by cleansing the existing reservoirs.

The mushroom growth of buildings of flats and housing schemes should be checked and construction of more floors on existing structures should not be permitted, the seminar recommended.

The seminar proposed builders should be made to bear the cost of sewerage and water supply schemes at the time of approval of site plans and the district administration should find out ways and means to reduce water- logging on priority basis.

The authorities concerned were asked to replace water pipelines immersed in sewage.

The seminar observed shifting of the vegetable market had necessitated construction of roads on canal banks, along with some bridges on the canals.

It also proposed the construction of a new ring road as the existing ring road was over-burdened.

The seminar stressed the district administration should ensure coordination among Hyderabad Electric Supply Company, Pakistan Telecommunication Corporation, Sui Southern Gas Company and other agencies to save newly-constructed roads from destruction.

The district administration was also urged to remove encroachments.

Sindh Ombudsman Haziqul Khairi presided over the seminar.

HESCO: The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company electrified 161 villages in the interior of Sindh during the last three months.

In a report issued to the press here on Saturday, the company said 89 villages were provided electricity under the Khushhal Pakistan Programme, 67 under the Village Electrification Programme and five under another programme.
