KARACHI, Nov 1: Vowing to transform the educational institutions and hospitals into service-oriented organizations, Karachi Nazim Naimatullah Khan on Friday reiterated that the City Government would spend Rs10 on reforms in both sectors.

“Soon people would strive for getting their children’s admissions at the public sector educational institutions, and they will also prefer to get treatment in local hospitals instead of going abroad,” he said while speaking at the inauguration ceremony of computer lab in a higher secondary school for girls.

He said the provision of modern education to both men and women played a key role in the development of a nation. “Unfortunately, our past rulers had kept us, especially women, away from education.”

Criticizing the prevailing class-based system, he vowed to uproot this menace from the city and said revolutionary steps would be taken to transform the system of education.

The city Nazim also lambasted values of the Western civilization and observed that we are being forced to adopt western values and way of living. “We would resist all such attempts aimed at snatching our Islamic identity and continue striving for the rights of women, as enshrined in Shariat.”

The executive district officer (EDO), education, Prof Rais Alvi, said on the directive of the city Nazim, 13 higher secondary schools were being upgraded and in this regard a notification would be issued soon.

He said computer labs had been set up at all higher secondary schools, and a plan had been chalked out to install computers at computer labs in 60 secondary schools during the current fiscal year.—PPI\APP
