KARACHI: New building at AKU inaugurated

KARACHI, Nov 1: Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro has said the progress Aga Khan University is making is unprecedented in the context of the universities in the country.

Inaugurating the newly-constructed Nazerali-Walji Building at the AKU on Friday, the governor said his last visit to this campus was on the occasion of Convocation-2000.

He was informed about the three new facilities representing a total investment of Rs600 million.

The facilities are the Sports and Rehabilitation Centre, the Juma Building for Research and the Ibn Ridwan Building for community Health Sciences.

Today, he was told, additional buildings were under construction. They included the Women’s Residences, a complex of three buildings for those female professionals who opt to live on campus.

He paid tribute to Mr and Mrs Sultanali Nazerali-Walji for this extra-ordinarily generous gift to the AKU.

“I admire you that while you reside abroad, you have not forgotten your roots,” the governor said. “Indeed your gift will benefit many needy and deserving patients whose prayers will, Insha-Allah, bring much Barakaat upon your family”.

The others who spoke at the ceremony included Ambassador Saidullah Khan Dehlavi, chairman of the board of trustees, AKU; and Dr Shams Kassim Lakha, president of the AKU.

Nursing: The Sindh governor, inaugurating the Women’s Residence at the AKU, said:

“By offering higher education in nursing, such as MSc degree, and by sending nurses abroad to obtain their PhDs in this noble subject, AKU has enhanced the dignity of this profession.”—APP
