RAWALPINDI, Oct 28: Sui Southern Gas Karachi (SSG) advanced to the semifinals of the All-Pakistan ARL Invitation hockey tournament after beating Army Colours 5-4 on penalty strokes.

Also checking into the last four were hosts ARL, 1-0 winners against DHA Attock and DHA Sargodha who defeated Gojra 2-0.

Sui Southern and Army were level 1-1 at the end of regulation time while extra time did not yield any goal. In the shoot-out that followed, Ijaz put in two with Mansoor, Zia and Ishtiaq netting once for Sui Gas. Nasir, Imran, Tabaraq and Abid were the scorers for the losers.

ARL owed their victory to centre forward Sajjad who struck in the 68th minute to seal the fate of DHA Attock. The hosts will now play Navy in Wednesday’s semifinals.

DHA Sargodha rode their luck to knock out Gojra which had numerous scoring opportunities but were unable to convert them.

Shahid Mahmood and Shahid Bhatti were on target either side of half-time to help earn Sargodha victory.

In Tuesday’s semifinal Sargodha play Sui Southern Gas, Karachi.
