ISLAMABAD, Oct 28: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) will provide guarantee to the world community, especially the United States, that Pakistan will fully combat terrorism in the country.

This was stated by MMA nominee for the office of prime minister, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, while talking to reporters here on Sunday evening.

“We will like to make our stand clear that we will never allow Pakistani soil to be used against any country,” the MMA leader said.

He said his party and the MMA had condemned terrorist attacks in Pakistan, including the killing of French engineers in Karachi early this year. Such incidents do not serve any purpose, he said.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman said for combating international network of terrorism, the MMA would coordinate with the world community.

He said people wanted to revise the constitutional package introduced by President Gen Pervez Musharraf, but a flexible approach had to be adopted during the transitional period.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman said: “We believe that no individual has any right to amend the Constitution. But, we are in the process of transferring of power from a usurper to the people, therefore, we will have to adopt a flexible approach.”

To a question, he said: “We do not have any foreign policy of our own which reflects national aspirations. We want good relations with the world community. The policy should serve the interest of the country and every Pakistani should feel proud of the policy.”

Kashmir issue should be resolved in accordance with the UN resolutions and the Simla Agreement, he added.

Commenting on Islamization of Pakistani society, he said the MMA would go for legislation within the framework of the Constitution and pursue the recommendations of the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII).

When asked whether he would use the prime minister house in Islamabad if elected to the office, Fazlur Rahman said the MMA leadership believed in austerity and simplicity and there should be no difference between the people and government.

However, he said the government would be spending a huge amount if it decided to vacate the building which also housed several offices.
