KARACHI, Oct 26: Violence erupted at Bilal Colony in Korangi Industrial Area on Saturday night after the police killed an “innocent youth.”
Police sources said two youths were sitting at a playground in the colony when they
were spotted by two policemen riding a motorcycle. As the policemen were about to approach them, they got alerted and tried to flee.
The policemen, Nasir Khan and Allahdino, started firing, resulting in the death of a youth, identified as Noor Zada, who was in his thirties.
Sources told Dawn that the youth might have been smoking hashish and got confused when they saw the police. May be
they tried to hide their cigarettes and the policemen assumed as if they were taking out their weapons, and opened fire at them.
The police failed to recover any weapon from the youths but tried to prove as if they had weapons, inside sources in the police said.
Following the death of an innocent youth, the people got infuriated and surrounded the Korangi Industrial Area police station where they lit bonfires and pelted the moving vehicles and the police station with stones.
As the situation went out of control of the area police, reinforcement was sent to bring the situation under control.
The people had been alleging that the policemen were drunk when they had opened fire.
The DIG Karachi Operations, Tariq Jamil, could not be reached despite repeated attempts.
