KARACHI, Oct 26: The People’s Party Parliamentarians’ leaders on Saturday handed in a memorandum to the provincial election commissioner on the alleged rigging in most of the national and provincial constituencies in Sindh.
A delegation of PPP leaders, including Syed Qaim Ali Shah, provincial party chief Nisar Khuhro, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Yusuf Talpur, Rashid Rabbani, Abdullah Murad and others, visited the election commission and lodged their complain with provincial election commissioner Ali Ahmed Halepoto about alleged attempts to manipulate election results to the detriment of the PPP candidates.
They claimed that massive rigging took place in districts Shikarpur, Khairpur, Sanghar, Jacobabad, Thatta, Tharparkar and Karachi.
“Application with due facts regarding all the districts was filed by the various affected candidates but unfortunately no substantial action has been taken as yet,” they claimed.
They requested the EC that urgent and effective action should be taken on all these applications. At present, the confidence of the people in the election commission stood shaken, they remarked.
Specific mention was made of PS-11 - Shikarpur-III - where result was announced initially by the returning officer and subsequently the consolidated result was also announced. A certificate was given to the winning candidate — PPP’s Agha Tariq — which is available with him. Despite this, they pointed out that notification of the loosing candidate was published. Action should be taken against the responsible persons.
They demanded that an inquiry should be held to find out as to who manipulated the notification contrary to the result announced by the returning officer.
