RAWALPINDI, Oct 24: The judge of Anti-Terrorist Court no 1, Manzoor Ahmad Mirza, on Thursday, awarded 10-year rigorous imprisonment to a member of a banned outfit.
The convict, Tahir Mehmood, alias Commando, was also fined Rs10,000, and would have to undergo an additional one-year jail- term in case of non-payment.
According to an FIR registered by New Town police, the convict, possessing a Kalashinkove, was proceeding towards an Imam Bargah to commit terrorism when arrested.
The court also awarded another four-month rigorous imprisonment to the convict under section 11 F of Anti-Terrorism Act.
He will also have to pay a Rs1,000 fine, or face another 15- day jail-term.
According to the police, the convict had also distributed objectionable literature to fuel up sectarianism.
The convict is also the main accused in Shah-i-Najaf tragedy case and is under trail in the same court.
EXONERATED: The judge of Anti-Terrorist Court no 2, Safdar Hussain Malik, has exonerated 12 people of the charges of disturbing public order and committing terrorism due to lack of evidence.
The accused — Zahid, Iqrar, Habib Ullah, Mujahid, Asim Rasheed, Mohammad Tariq, Aftab Ahmad, Mohammad Rafaqat, Mir Alam, Tarooq Sidiqui, Abdul Wajid and Iftikhar Ahmad — had been booked by Waris Khan police for allegedly holding an anti-government demonstration, burning tyres on roads, pelting stones on police party and trying to set ablaze a petrol pump near Committee Chowk.
BAIL REJECTED: Additional District and Sessions Judge Syed Pervez Ali Shah has rejected bail application of two alleged terrorists.
Mohammad Bashir and Masaud were booked by Pirwadhai police for allegedly trying to smuggle grenades and rocket launchers for terrorism.
The same court also rejected the bail application of an alleged drug-trafficker. According to Pirwadhai police, Kamran, alias Kaka, was trying to smuggle half kg charas when arrested.
