KARACHI, Oct 24: The recounting for the three national and provincial assemblies seats — NA-255, PS-103 and PS-118 — remained inconclusive for the fourth consecutive day on Thursday, and will continue on Friday.
There are 194 polling stations and till Thursday only 16 polling stations had been covered.
From the provincial constituency PS-103 out of the 90 polling stations 72 were covered, and in PS-118 out of the 92 polling stations recounting of votes of 22 polling stations was completed. Three bags of polling station numbers 22, 23 and 25 were found empty.
From PS-103 Mohammad Idrees of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was declared winner in the results announced onPTV and Radio whereas in the initial results Mohammad Muslim of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal was leading.
Likewise, in PS-118 from where Syed Faisal Sabzwari of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement has been shown elected in the unofficial results in contrary to initial reports indicating Syed Qutub Ahmed of the MMA as winner.
MMA candidate from NA-255 Aslam Mujahid has criticized the recounting process and accused the returning officer of failing to apply recounting rules.
He said, in a statement, that “our objections of broken seals, missing vote bags and counting of rejected votes are being ignored.”
He said that on Thursday during the recounting out of ten polling stations seals of bags of six polling stations were found broken. “But despite our objections and protests, the RO refused to take notice of it.”
