KARACHI: Man run over by truck: Six cars, 18 bikes hijacked

KARACHI, Oct 22: Twenty-four vehicles — six cars and 18 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Tuesday, police said.
Two cars were hijacked. Four others were stolen.
Eight motorcycles were hijacked. Ten others were stolen.
ACCIDENT: A young man died in a road accident on Tuesday morning.
Police said Mohammed Samad, aged 22, travelling on his motorcycle (SCG-3528), was knocked down by a speeding truck (LSB-5518) at Schon Circle in Defence.
He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
The truck driver escaped after the accident abandoning the truck. Police claimed to have impounded the truck.
Protesters set a truck and a water tanker on fire in different parts of the city on late Monday night when these vehicles were found involved in road accidents. The vehicles were partially damaged.
Police said a truck (LSA-6915) hit and injured three young men riding on a motorcycle near Jama Cloth Market. People present there set the truck on fire.
The injured were rushed to Civil Hospital.
A speeding water tanker hit and injured two motorcyclists in Soldier Bazaar. People set the tanker (JP-5228) ablaze. The fire brigade, however, saved the vehicle from being fully destroyed.
Police said the drivers escaped, leaving the vehicles behind.
KILLED: An unidentified young man was found murdered in a sewage drain in Mehmoodabad on late Monday night. The head of the body was missing.
Police said area residents informed them about a body that was floating in a sewage drain in Qayyumabad. Police recovered the body from the drain.
Police said the young was slaughtered and his headless body was dumped in the drain.
The body was sent to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for post-mortem. Doctors at the hospital said the man was killed a few days back.
CASE REGISTERED: Police registered on Tuesday a case (170/2002) against the All-Pakistan Oil Tankers Association (APOTA) for creating law and order situation in Shireen Jinnah Colony on Monday night.
A duty officer at Boat Basin police station said the case had been registered against Mr Shahwani and the APOTA.
