Burns triumphs despite Woods’ late charge


LAKE BUENA VISTA (Florida), Oct 21: Bob Burns shot a seven-under-par 65 to win the Disney Golf Classic Sunday despite a spirited late charge by world No 1 Tiger Woods.

Burns, 34, finished at 25-under-par, one shot better than 54-hole leader Chris DiMarco, who birdied the final hole for a four-under 68 and a 24-under finish.

Woods began the day six strokes off the lead, but shot a nine-under-par 63 to take the early clubhouse lead at 23-under.

Japan’s Hidemichi Tanaka (66) and Tim Herron (66) tied for fourth at 22-under, while South Korean K.J. Choi (64), David Toms (65), South African Tim Clark (66) and John Rollins (66) all finished at 21-under.

Burns became the 16th first-time winner on the PGA Tour this season, extending the record set last week by Phil Tataurangi.
