PCB chief meets national selectors

LAHORE, Oct 20: Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board, Lt Gen Tauqir Zia, held a detailed discussion with the national selection committee at Gaddafi Stadium Sunday.

It was learnt that the selection committee was called by the chairman to select the probables who will be considered for the selection of the Pakistan team for its next tour of Zimbabwe starting from Nov 1.

Sources said that no decision could be taken during the meeting and the selection committee will again meet the PCB chairman on Monday.

The main point in question is whether to recall Wasim Akram and Saeed Anwar for the tour or not. Both Wasim and Saeed missed the ongoing Test series against Australia. Wasim had opted to take a lay off from the cricket and avoided the present Australian series.

Saeed also took a similar lay-off but later expressed his availability which was not accepted by the PCB.

PCB chairman is likely to meet Wasim, Saeed and two other seniors Inzamam-ul-Haq and Yousuf Youhana before taking any decision. Both Inzamam and Youhana were not available for the Test series against Australia on medical grounds.
