HYDERABAD, Oct 20: A defeated candidate of People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP) on PS-53 (Hyderabad-XI), Syed Mohsin Shah Bukhari, has demanded re-election in his constituency.
Addressing a press conference at the press club on Sunday, he demanded that strict action be taken against the returning officer and the Taluka Mukhtiarkar concerned, both of whom he alleged of having played a partisan role.
He maintained that the candidate had the right to call for re-counting of votes but in his case the returning officer concerned did not accede to his request.
He alleged that his polling agents were not allowed to sit at the polling stations and were subjected to torture and the ballot boxes were not sealed in the presence of his polling agents.
He claimed that the polling stations had been forcibly occupied by “hoodlums” to stuff ballot boxes.
MPA-ELECT CONTACTED: The People’s Party Parliamentarians leadership, including Benazir Bhutto and Qaim Ali Shah, is reported to have contacted Dr Irfan Gul Magsi, the MPA-elect from PS-52 (Hyderabad-X).
Ms Bhutto talked to him over phone and appreciated his performance in the election, a close associate of Magsi told this scribe.
MPA-elect Syed Qaim Ali Shah had also been in touch with Magsi over phone to get his support in the Sindh assembly, sources said.
Magsi has defeated Imdad Pitafi of PPP in the Oct 10 polls.
He was earlier elected Nazim, union council, Chambar-I by defeating Ameen Hyder of the PPP-backed Awam Dost panel.
