Karachi Whites in tri-series final

Published October 20, 2002

LAHORE, Oct 19: Karachi Whites cruised into the final of the National One-day Junior (Under-19) Cricket triangular series with an easy 73-run victory over Fata at Gaddafi Stadium here Saturday.

Fata were bundled out for 140 in 41.1 overs after being set a target of 214.

Karachi Whites face unbeaten Lahore Blues in Monday’s final at the same venue.

Pacer Tabish did most of the damage by grabbing four for 39. Off-spinner Aftab Ahmed conceded just 18 runs in his 10-over stint that fetched him two wickets.

Fata never really posed a challenge to last season’s runners-up once their top-order batting was uprooted with half the side going into the pavilion with only 58 runs on the board.

Hussain Akbar, batting at No 10, top-scored with 28 although extras totalled 36 with Karachi bowlers generous in giving away as many as 32 runs in wides.

Earlier, wicket-keeper Naeem Ahmed Khan stole the batting honours for Karachi Whites. He remained undefeated with a 67-ball 62, which included seven boundaries.

Skipper Khalid Latif, who lost the toss, hit five fours and one six in making 45 off 78 deliveries.
