Carmichael lifts first professional crown


MELBOURNE, Oct 13: Australia’s Craig Carmichael clinched his first professional title at the Victorian PGA Championship Sunday, beating compatriot Craig Jones at the first hole of a sudden-death playoff.

Carmichael, a former milkman, birdied the par-three 18th after Jones had returned a par. Both players had finished the 72 regulation holes on 10-under-par 278 at the Kew Golf Club.

Carmichael fired a closing round of six-under-par 66 to finish three strokes ahead of the field with Jones, who returned a 70, in the opening tournament of the 2002-03 Australasian PGA season.
